The Lincoln Journal Star recently reviewed Path of Destruction. Carolyn Johnsen says the book “is a page-turner, deftly recreating the suspense felt by meteorologists, who watched Katrina develop in the Atlantic, and describing the terror of victims, who climbed to rooftops or crowded into the Superdome to escape the flood.”
Lawrence Powell reviewed Path of Destruction for the Newhouse News Service recently and said:
The major contribution of “Path of Destruction,” though, may be its close examination of disaster mismanagement. There are a lot of culprits in McQuaid and Schleifstein’s account. But it’s far from clear that Mike Brown should head the list. The defectiveness of the federal response began months, probably years, before Katrina hit.

The New Republic’s Michael Grunwald has just written an article that discusses why Katrina should be viewed as a man-made disaster. During the course of the article he talks about the various books that have been written about the storm, including Path of Destruction. He writes:
No one understands this better than Times-Picayune reporters John McQuaid and Mark Schleifstein, who have not only written an insightful book about Katrina, Path of Destruction, but also predicted the disaster in 2002 in a remarkable series of articles that saved lives, and would have saved more if it had been properly appreciated.

Jason Berry of Gambit Weekly recently reviewed Path of Destruction with two other Katrina related books. He found the “chronicle of the Katrina debacle…moving” and “sobering.”
